Our Digitisation Programme

 

Work continues daily to ensure more NCAP aerial imagery is made accessible online.  This work is funded by website subscriptions and involves extensive preservation, cataloguing and digitisation of original aerial photographs, finding aids and rolls of film.  

 

Our 2015-2016 digitisation programme included:

  • Over 40,000 air survey photographs of locations across the UK from the Simmons Aerofilms Collection
  • Second World War aerial photographs of locations in Germany, Iran, Norway and Scotland
  • Mosaics of Second World War aerial photographs of Toulon and Brussels
  • Over 4,000 Sortie Plot finding aids from the ACIU Collection covering locations throughout western Europe and the Mediterranean from 1943-1944
  • Over 60 Sortie Plot finding aids from the Scottish Office Collection covering locations across Scotland from 1946-1958

 

Our 2016-2017 digitisation programme includes:

  • Over 3,000 finding aids to Allied aerial photography of western Europe and the Mediterranean from 1944-1945
  • Over 5,000 finding aids to Ordnance Survey aerial photography of Scotland from 1970-2009
  • Over 20,000 aerial images from the Simmons Aerofilms and Airbus collections of locations across England and Wales from 1965-1998
  • Aerial imagery of the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944 from the US National Archives
