Frame details

Date: 06 June 1944
Location: Port de Ouistreham; Lower Normandy; France
Coordinates (lat, lon): 49.285867, -0.254738
Description: Seafront houses in Ouistreham were demolished by the Germans to make way for strongpoints and an anti-tank ditch, which angled its way across the eastern edge of the town. Inevitably, this front-line town was to suffer additional damage from bombing, naval gunfire and house-to-house fighting, as British troops advanced inland from SWORD Beach on D-Day.
