Description: Defensive strongpoint WN62 is located right of centre in this image, covering the road to Colleville from the beach, and was a formidable obstacle for Allied troops on OMAHA Beach. Defenders were protected by concrete bunkers and had an array of howitzers, anti-tank guns, mortars and machine guns at their command. The position was not silenced until early afternoon, when troops managed to encircle it and attack from the rear.
