Description: Oblique aerial photograph taken facing North.
In this image of Juno Beach, elements of 8 Canadian Brigade are landing, with numerous vessels further out to sea. Naval gunfire in support of the landings has set fire to buildings in the town of Bernieres-sur-Mer and vegetation in the surrounding fields. The wind is strong here, as can be seen by the low-lying smoke plumes, and this has caused a number of the Canadian amphibious Duplex-Drive Sherman tanks to founder in deep water.
