German Air Force photographs of Scotland released

A collection of 125 aerial reconnaissance photographs of Scotland taken by the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War has been digitised and released on the NCAP website. The images date from the first 5 years of the war and show targets of strategic interest to German intelligence, such as airfields, docks and factories.

Covering locations from Shetland to Stranraer, the images were annotated by German photographic interpreters to show the main facilities of a target and their dimensions. This information would have been used by the Nazi’s to estimate British industrial output and military capabilities.
