British military maps of Hong Kong used during the Second World War were created from survey work carried out by the 2nd Colonial Survey Section, Royal Engineers, in 1924-1927. This survey was assisted by the acquisition of aerial photography by seaplanes operating from the seaplane carrier HMS Pegasus in 1924.
HMS Pegasus was fitted with two photographic dark-rooms for film and print processing. She undertook the aerial survey of Hong Kong from 3 November to 9 December 1924.
