Description: Very few amphibious Duplex Drive tanks reached OMAHA Beach with the first waves of infantry; being launched too far from the beach, many became swamped by waves and sank. As troops landed without armoured support they became pinned down, unable to move off the beach. At upper left in this image, a warship is visible in shallow water, giving gunfire support to troops on the beach by engaging defensive positions.
