Fort Drum was one of a chain of forts built by the US military to defend Manila Bay. This 'concrete battleship' was the last American unit in the Philippines to fall to the Japanese in May 1942. In January 1945 it was recaptured, and destroyed internally, by US troops who ignited a gasoline mixture they had poured into the fort.
