D-Day - JUNO Beach

Allocated to Canadian forces, JUNO beach lay between Courseulles-sur-Mer and St Aubin-sur-Mer. The terrain here was low-lying, with several small towns and villages strung along the coast, well-defended with anti-tank ditches and strongpoints. The presence of offshore reefs led the invasion in this sector to be delayed to allow landing craft to clear them on the rising tide; this meant that safe passage could not be steered between mines and other submerged obstacles, which took a heavy toll.
